Scrabble word checker
Is it a valid Scrabble word?
Type a word, for example QUIZ. Wortfinder tells you at once whether it is valid according to our UK word list, and how many points it scores without premium squares. For a valid word, one tap takes you to its meaning in a dictionary or to longer words that contain it.
The checker uses the same free word list as our Scrabble word finder, with every plural and verb form. Arguing about a short word? Here are all the two-letter words, and the word lists sort every word by letter and length.
Frequently asked questions
If a word is valid here, is it allowed in a tournament?
Usually, but not always. Our list is ENABLE, a free public-domain list close to the North American one, plus British spellings from SCOWL and the extra two-letter words Collins allows (such as CH, ZO and QI). Tournaments use Collins Scrabble Words, so now and then a word may be missing here or extra. In a tournament, the official list decides.
Do plurals and verb forms count?
Yes. The list has the inflected forms, for example QUIZ and QUIZZES or PLAY, PLAYED and PLAYING. Check exactly the form you want to put on the board.
Are names and abbreviations allowed?
Not under the usual Scrabble rules: proper nouns, abbreviations and hyphenated words do not count. For names and abbreviations in puzzles, try the crossword solver.
Can I send the result to the other players?
Yes. The word is part of the page address, for example wortfinder.app/en-gb/word-checker/?w=quiz. Send the link, and whoever opens it sees the same result.
